Microsoft will deploy Maia 300 not just in individual clusters, but at a multi-gigawatt scale starting in 2027. The new system is expected to deliver up to 40% more tokens per megawatt and around 30% more tokens per dollar than leading GPU systems that Microsoft plans to use in 2027. In doing so, Microsoft targets the currently scarcest factor of the AI boom: electricity – while simultaneously improving the cost structure of Azure and Copilot.
