The Hormuz blockade and destruction of energy infrastructure in the Middle East have severely impacted global LNG supply chains. As a result, the price of coal has exploded from around 106 USD/ton in early 2026 to currently 142 USD/ton. For Peabody Energy (BTU), the world's largest coal producer, this price environment means an expansion of margins that the market seems to have priced in only inadequately so far.
