The USA Wants to Expand Nuclear Energy More Quickly. BWX Technologies is a Supplier for Nuclear Power Plants and Small Modular Reactors!

This week, US President Biden signed a bipartisan bill that aims to strengthen nuclear power in the US. The nuclear package is intended to speed up the timetable for the approval of new nuclear reactors and reduce the fees that companies have to pay. In addition, environmental review procedures are to be simplified and shortened. Around 440 nuclear power reactors are currently in operation worldwide and, according to the World Nuclear Association, a further 60 are under construction and 110 are in the planning stage. The focus is on Asia. More are now likely to be built in the USA. The hunger for energy is growing. Analysts estimate that the demand for electricity in the USA will increase by 2.4% per year by the end of the decade. Re-industrialization, electrification and the age of AI are fuelling demand.

BWX Technologies is a beneficiary of the USA's efforts to expand nuclear energy. The company develops and manufactures components such as steam generators, heat exchangers and reactor vessels for nuclear power plants, is an important supplier of nuclear propulsion systems for the Navy and is active in the field of nuclear medicine. BWX Technologies is also involved in the engineering of Small Modular Reactors (SMR), small mini-nuclear power plants, and manufactures reactor vessels and heat exchangers. For example, the BWRX-300 reactor from GE Hitachi, for which BWX Technologies produces the reactor pressure vessel, could become established in the USA. In terms of content, this is the largest component in this small modular reactor. It is estimated that the market for small modular reactors could be worth $300 billion by 2040. As a result, the group is expected to grow in the mid single-digit percentage range in terms of revenue and up to a high single-digit percentage range in terms of earnings in the medium term.

The fact that the USA wants to accelerate the expansion of nuclear energy was well received by the share. From a technical point of view, the share has broken out and started to follow the long-term upward trend. This makes the share suitable for tracking the "nuclear power" investment trend.
